These are great vintage shots of the South Vancouver Vaisakhi parade from what appears to the early 1980s. Can also see businesses that no longer exist on Main Street: Frontier Cloth House, Main Food Center, Punjab Fashion Store.
Back in this era, there was no Vaisakhi parade in Surrey; so, everyone (and I mean everyone) came to the Vancouver Parade on Main Street. The streets and side streets were jammed, as were the rooftops of businesses. Since 2000, the attendance for the South Vancouver parade has dwindled sharply. But for South Van’ers, there are memories associated with attending this parade. Held annually in April – check it out!
