Originally opened in 1933 on West 59th Avenue as Crippled Children’s Hospital and later renamed in 1947 to Children’s Hospital to exemplify the growing awareness that children are not defined by their illnesses.
It stayed in operation until 1982 until the new location at 28th Avenue and Oak Street began admitting its first patients.
This is a vintage 1958 photo of Vancouver’s former Children’s Hospital, which was in South Vancouver’s Marpole neighbourhood.
